Music, Sweet Music
We are a musical family, of sorts. We have 3 guitarists, a percussionist, a vocalist/dancer (ballet), a cellist...None of us is ever going to play Carneige Hall but, we all LOVE music. We LOVE listening to all genres of music. While growing up, our daughters were familiar with The Itsy Bitsy Spider and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star but you were more likely to hear them toddling along singing selections from Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, the Beatles, the Mashall Tucker Band, Leonard Skynard, Crosby/Stills/Nash AND Young, or even humming a classical piece or two. Certainly, as they grew up they discovered newer groups that they enjoyed but none of them ever stopped listening to the 'oldies' that Hubs and I loved as kids. Our girls will still croon along with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. They know exactly who Jean Luc Ponty is and Stephan Grappelli, Doc Watson, Sam Bush, Keith Moon, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Stevie Ray Vaughn, B.B. King, Satchmo, Django Reinhardt. They won't look at you funny if you mention Jim Morrison- Breezy will even recite for you- or Bob Dylan. Shoot, they like some pop music too. Yes, even musical scores. They all enjoy live concerts and have probably attended more than Hubs and I ever did. Birdie and DoodleBug even went to Bonaroo in 2008 and had a BLAST! The only way you can tell our i-pods apart is by color not content--except Hubs who is strictly old school rock with a few exceptions in jazz and blues with a bit of bluegrass for good measure. I believe that I can honestly say that our family loves and appreciates almost all music.
All that being said, I can hardly put into words how much I enjoy a musician that I have only been listening to since July, 2010 when I happen to catch his performance on GMA. He is a PHENOMENAL talent. His tones are pure. His ability is incredible. He puts pop and rock tunes into classical format to lure younger crowds to classical music. And, ladies, he is quite easy on the eyes. Indeed. I hope you enjoy listening to and looking at David Garrett (so sorry Sting, I may have to replace you as my fave to gaze upon...LOL):
I am putting the link to him playing Csardas first simply because it is one of my favorites. However, everything he plays is amazing. Now, how do I turn back the clock and return to my twenties?
Or, if you prefer rock-

ReplyDeleteI had never heard of him either, but he is certainly very talented and, as you say, very easy on the eye. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhen some of the "old" bands may a come back, my girls knew all the words.
ReplyDeleteJames Taylor's music was their lullaby.
Marnie, he is amazing...my BFF gave me two of his CDs for Christmas! I listen to him all the time.
ReplyDeleteThis- Now that I've discovered him on You Tube...LOL

ReplyDeleteTam, I heard he was on the Today Show and I MISSED IT!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of his either!
ReplyDeleteWe also0 are a muscial family...mostly vocal and piano but we do have a son in law who plays piano, drums, trumpet, guitar and fiddle. We have all sang in our church, the girls started when they were quite small...most recently my daughter and son in law who sing/play guitar each week on the praise team!
Our daughter has even sang the natioanl anthem at the state level...in front of 3 thousand people...so I did LOVE this post today!!!! wonderful... music is a beautiful part of life, that is for sure!
Melody Mae- that's awesome! We've had the church choirs and school orchestra/band/chorus and making state too--although no solos in front of 3000 people, we would have panicked! Was she completely nervous? My favorite time is now though because it's just sitting back and listening when we're all together. You are so right, music really is a beautiful part of life!
ReplyDeleteAwesome stuff. Thank you for sharing! I'll have to share this with my husband and daughters.
ReplyDeleteI think music is so important for children..thanks for the heads up.. I had not heard of this before... Michelle
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of himeither, but will be coming back for more. How can he walk around like that and be so casual while playing so beautifully? Makes me green!
ReplyDeleteWe love music too! 2 of my kids play in a concert band, and we've a variety of instruments on the go, not Carnegie Hall material either, but that doesn't matter.
I'm on a high tonight, cos got lots of praise at my french horn lesson- love it! Both praise and the french horn!
Lisa, hope they like him!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, Isn't he amazing?!
Mimi, So awesome that you are playing the French horn! I thought about taking up the violin or cello but I think I'll just listen to David Garrett on violin and DD1 on cello!
