FIRST is WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. This one is a great way to get to know some wonderful new bloggy friends and learn more about some old ones...not that I'm calling anyone OLD, mind you.
1. What is the most useful book in your house? Whichever one I'm reading at any given moment that takes me away...books allow me the escape that real life doesn't. Unless it's a Stephen King book....I don't usually want to go where he sends readers.
2. What's worse-being too hot or too cold? Being too HOT is worse because I can't get cool. However, I can get warmed up when I get too cold! Face it, one can take off just so much and naked around here isn't pretty or cooler.
3. Share something that made you smile this past weekend. Birdie playing soccer with the dogs; DoodleBug and her friends who showed us all how to deal with a tragedy.
4. How do you like your hamburgers? Or don't you? I eat veggie burgers or turkey burgers. I put a little cheese on them with a dab of mayo. I have eaten my burgers this way since I was a kid.
5. What's your summer beach read? If it's not summer in your part of the world then tell us what book you're reading in front of the fire while sipping hot cocoa. Stephen King's (of course) UNDER THE DOME. I'm reading it slowly because it's good and I don't like for good books to end.
6. How was your birthday celebrated when you were a kid? We pretty much could have whatever we wanted as far as parties went. Regardless, we always had a family celebration on the actual birthday complete with gifts, favorite meal, cake and ice cream.
7. What's something that is totally uncool that you love anyway? Better keep this a secret.
8. Insert your own random thought here. Some of you know that a friend of DoodleBug's took her own life on Thursday. I can't even imagine a tragedy of such proportions as a parent. This young girl, Kiki, was an amazing young person who will be missed by many. Over the weekend I watched the men and women's Ultimate Frisbee teams (DoodleBug and Kiki were supposed to co-captain the women's team in the fall) come together in a way that did my heart good. These kids surrounded each other with an outpouring of love and support the likes of which I have never witnessed before. Even those who were at home for the summer came back into town. Kiki's parents also reached out to these wonderful kids. I am in awe of such warmth, love and support. It will be a long road of grief but they won't have to travel it alone.
Wow the high school reunion question surprises me because I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are amazing and I am glad you wrote about not swimming. I think I swam more before we got a pool.
I never seem to find the time.
I hope you have a good week,
Kim
I agree, I don't want to go... where Stephen King takes the characters in his books :) He does have a great imagination, doesn't he? "Christine" is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been swimming in ages either, even when we had a pool in the yard, I rarely used it.
Stay cool!
So sorry to hear about your daughter's friend. It's such a terribly tragedy but I'm glad your daughter has such loving and supportive friends.
ReplyDeleteLots of people feel that way about the heat. I don't happen to be one of them. lol. There's an old friend I would love to spend the day with. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, SusanD
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your daughter's friend. That is just so sad :(
ReplyDeleteAwww, I bet you are so proud of your daughter and her friends for coming together like that. They sound like lovely people.
ReplyDeleteLet us know what the Stephen King book is like when you have finished it!
Kim- Yeah, unfortunately the people I went to high school with are still narrow minded idiots. Who wants more of that? LOL You have a good week too!
ReplyDeleteKathy- I liked Christine too but, believe it or not, Firestarter is my first fave and The Stand is my second. I just love his imagination! When we went to see The Secret Window I burst out laughing at the end and everyone in the theater looked at me like I'd love my mind!
Kara- Those kids have been amazing!
SusanD- I'm in the minority down here with the heat. Most love it. Of course, if I ever hear them complain, I give them a ration of crap about it! LOL
Betty- Thank you so much! Yeah, high school reunions are way overrated---same idiots that they were in high school.
Amiee- It is sad. I can't even imagine having to go through that as a parent.
Annie-They are great- next time you're over here, come visit and we'll go out with them...not that I can keep up, but I'll try! LOL So far the book is excellent!!!
I had the high school reunion question on my mind, because yesterday we went to a wedding with one of hubby's high school buddies. They hadn't seen each other since high school and reconnected with facebook. We sat at a table full of classmates and had a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteFor the last question, I'd like to spend time with a NEW friend- you!!!
Have a good week!
Pretty sure only the under 40 crowd says too cold...if you're over 40 'too hot' takes on a whole new meaning!
ReplyDeleteStephen King is spooky...I can't read his books.
I loved this line, 'It will be a long road of grief but they won't have to travel it alone.' How thankful they must be for the amazing support they're getting from friends.
ReplyDeletePatrice- You are too sweet! Come on down here and we'll go over to the beach and just hand out and talk all day long! Your hubby is lucky to have liked his high school pals!
ReplyDeleteJoyce-Amen Sista! You've got a point there! Stephen King is amazing! Admittedly, there are a couple of his that I wasn't able to read either. LOL
Judy- They have shown the adults involved how to reach out during a time of tragedy. They are helping each other grieve in a very healthy manner. I'm proud of DoodleBug and thankful for her friends.
I can totally understand you're swimsuit issues. Today was the first day I've been swimming all year.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl!!! That makes two of us then....I've always asked just what the heck reason is there to attend high school reunions? Not me!! When I graduated, that was the end of it all. right then, and there!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was a great read about the Ultimate Frisbee team and their outpouring of support and love.
