I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm praying (begging) every day that fall get here swiftly, last a long time and be quite chilly AND that winter follow and be a cold one! Meanwhile, I'm getting through the summer heat with the Wednesday HOPS! Just click the buttons and play along!
1. I included this quote (attributed to William H. Danforth) in my blog post yesterday... "The best cure for a sluggish mind is to disturb it's routine." When was the last time you 'disturbed your routine' and how'd you do it? The best way to disturb my mental routine is to turn off the TV and ReadReadRead and then READ some more! And debate issues with an old friend- I love debating with people who don't try to force their opinion on you but, instead, respect that you have an opinion and appreciate the act of participating in debating the issues-whatever they may be. I only have that pleasure with an old friend from college and the lovelies, particularly Breezy (DD1). I love doing this so much that I will often take an opposing side just to enjoy the indulgence.
2. What's your favorite fried food indulgence? Fried foods used to my BFF but not anymore. I haven't eaten anything fried in YEARS! However, when my SIL prepares one of her native Filipino dishes, lumpia, I cannot resist! The lovelies call them Aunt Francy's egg rolls!
3. Did you have an allowance as a kid? What did you do with it? Do you give your own kids an allowance? No, no allowance. If we needed something, our parents mulled it over and gave us the money. Of course, we had chores that we were responsible for so it's not like they just gave it out for free. My granddaddy was always handing money to the grandkids (for free). He loved doing it and we loved receiving it. LOL
4. What's something you wish you knew more about? The list is long but I'm going to go with photography.
5. Is there anything you feel too old to do anymore? If so, what? I feel too old to go out and party with the kids when they come home. I can't take the bar atmosphere anymore- it makes me want to say unkind things to drunk, stupid people.
6. What's a song you think has a great first line? When it comes to questions about music, I always have many answers because I love so many different genres. This time, I gave my top ten songs with a great first line a number and picked one out of a bowl. Here's the one that won (which is fine because I could drool over look at John Mellencamp 24/7):
7. Who are you writing to/for when you create a blog post? In other words...as you write, who is the audience in your head? I write for the lovelies and for an audience which spans from those just starting out with families to empty nesters. And then, sometimes, I write for myself---you know, just to get it out there...almost like a venue for venting. Sometimes, it's just for fun.
8. Insert your own random thought here. As a parent, I am not unfamiliar with the feelings of pride that children bring us. But, I realized yesterday, that it's kind of nice when you discover they are proud of you too. Birdie and I were discussing the fact that I was able to climb those three flights of stairs in the parking garage without slowing down or stopping and that I could still talk and walk at the top and she said, "Mom, you know, we are all so proud of you and how far you've come. We talk about it all the time."
Oh, and Joyce, I thought of you when Deanie sent me this via text message yesterday:
And NOW:
Questions:
What was your biggest fear as a child? I think my biggest fear was that the house would catch on fire while we were sleeping. I have no idea why or where it came from.
Who taught you to cook? Initially, my mother. Accompanied closely by my grandmother and my aunt.
Do you have a lot of books in your home? Y!E!S!
Do you like carrot cake? Patrice says
frosting is good on top. If you like that cake, what kind of frosting do
you like best? On top? Hmm. I guess you wear it like a hat. LOVE me some carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! And I've got a killer recipe that is completely organic and gluten free!
What's did the last funny
t-shirt you read say? (It doesn't have to reflect your personal feeling
about the topic, just be funny and family friendly.) I can't put it here because it's not family friendly...but it was funny. No. It was hilarious! It was on DoodleBug...and yes, I bought it for her.
Don't forget to enter to win a copy of The Divorce Girl right HERE! Winner will be announced this weekend!
The four letter word that will not pass my lips because I know everyone is tired of hearing me but it is h**t. I am hoping for fall too. I was glad to see you wrote about it. You published that recipe for carrot cake didn't you? I remember thinking I could eat the whole thing. Just you talking about it the whole wanting to eat the whole thing came over me again. I bet it is so wonderful. You were afraid of the house burning down in the night? I wonder where that came from. Have a lovely day, I hope you get fall soon.
Okay, I hope fall comes quickly to your neighborhood and although it feels so much like fall today, I would like it to slow down for us. Winter comes way too soon. It seems like summer just got here!
i could understand being afraid of house fires. We have way too many book. My Kindle makes it so much easier when it comes to dusting books!GF carrot cake is usually very moist. Yum! Sorry we missed the t-shirt. I've seen some funny political ones lately, but I was too afraid to mention them and get someone all riled up. My followers numbers would take a nose dive.
I'm glad you are enjoying Ladybug Farm. I read all three of them and her book called Key to the Castle. I enjoy her casual style of writing. I could really see being one of the three women on Ladybug Farm. I wish the author would write some more! Have a Wendellful week. The Tucker picture was sent Monday.
Fabulous song that I hadn't heard before! But the video was a strange combination of a star trek episode (the message of the episode) and Romeo and Juliet, but no one died. And my problem with the ending; as a wheelchair user, how could he put her in his passenger's seat and leave her chair? The romance ended there for me... :)
The carrot cake sounds good. recipe? I don't make an effort to be gluten free, but I've found that a lot of gluten free food just tastes better!
You should move over here...it's not too hot at all! You should move over here...I've a daughter who loves debating and it's something that wears me out! Would love the recipe for carrot cake too. If you move over here, you could make it for me, lol! I'm not able for the pub nights out any more either, prefer a cuppa and peace and quiet! It is just lovely that the lovelies are proud of you (I am too!), and that they tell you this.
I didn't think about photography ... I would love to be able to take better photographs. I'd like to blame my point-and-shoot camera, but I'm pretty sure it's me, not the camera. ;-)
I'm waiting for the ool down around here, too. Soon... :)
And it's so nice to have people you can debate with, people you can agree to disagree with and everyone still respects each other. Too bad more people can't manage to do that.
How awesome that your daughters are so proud of your accomplishments and it had to feel great to hear it too, way to go on those flight of stairs :)
I enjoy debating with my son but it is getting harder and harder,I am telling you,he is a lawyer in training and by golly they can argue and out last you on just about any point, sometimes my head hurts, from trying to out think him LOL,I liked it when he was little and believed "Mommy knew it all"
Being a transplant to the low-country of SC for 31 years is still not long enough to be called a ‘benyeh.’ If I stay until I’m dead I’ll probably go a ‘comeyeh’ since I am, originally, ‘from off’ (which is the upstate but, rules you know). By day I take care of my sweet little granddaughter, Baby M and do all those things I did when I was a SAHM raising four daughters which has translated to, ‘by day, I am exhausted.’ By night I blog, blog, blog, and blog some more or I sleep, depending on my level of exhaustion (do they still make Geritol?). I have a very unhealthy addiction to sweets (nearly any kind will do) and all comfort foods not covered under the ‘sweets’ category. I’m known for speaking my mind so, if you don’t want to know, don’t ask me. I love to find the humor in my empty nest life. I live life hard and smack into that brick wall almost daily because I’ve always had to learn the hard way. Why change now? I’m so glad you’ve come to laugh with me as I do this middle age, empty nest thing like a BOSS!
Ha-thanks : )
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on #4...it brings out the mother in me. You know you're too old when the first thing you do is look for the fire exit : )
Joyce- Thought you might appreciate that one! I'm heading over soon to catch up on your blog- I'm so behind!

Oooh Lumpia!! I spent several weeks in the Philippines a few years ago. They brought me a plate of those every evening. Love them!

That's a great way to change your routine. I have to do that...she says again and again! The egg rolls look yummy. What a sweet compliment :)
