Happy Hodge Podge to You...and a bit of chattin'

The good thing about Tuesdays is that the next day is Wednesday. The good thing about Wednesday is the HODGE PODGE and the Chattin' on Patrice's porch! WooHoo!

And a Happy, happy birthday (yesterday) to our lovely Hodge Podge host- Joyce! Hope your day was absolutely birthday perfect!

1. What's the best and worst thing thing about growing older? The best: You no longer care what people think about you or your opinions. They can get over it. The worst: I just don't like it.

2.   Autumn arrives this week in the Northern Hemisphere...what one thing do you love most about the fall season? This is terrible- I can't pick just one thing! What to do, what to do?! Should I pick the holidays? Or the weather getting cooler? Or the changing of the leaves and all that splendid color? Or Birdie's birthday? Or Breezy and BestSonInLawEVER's anniversary? Or football???? Ok- I'll pick FOOTBALL!

3.  Speaking of fall...pumpkin seems to be flavoring everything these days-are you a fan?   What's your favorite pumpkin flavored food or beverage? I love pumpkin. I love pumpkin pie and I make a pumpkin chili that's good. And pumpkin bread or muffins or pancakes or waffles are good too! Haven't tried the coffee yet, but it's on my list!

4.  Since we're on the subject of fall...what's the worst fall you've ever taken? Probably when I fell out of the magnolia tree when I was a kid. I used to sit up there and read all the time and one day, I slipped and fell out. No broken bones though.

5.  If you could own a prop from any film what would you choose? I've never really thought about it. DoodleBug says she would choose Harry Potter's broom. I reallyreallyreallyreally love that little cottage that Colin Firth's character stays in in Love Actually, does that count?

6. What's the most interesting word you've read or learned in the past week? Well, since my most recent reads are the Fifty Shades trilogy, I'll just skip this question.

7. When was the last time you locked yourself out of your house, car, or office?  Was it a big deal? I've locked myself out of something maybe once in my life. This is something the husband is famous for in our family. And yes, it's a big deal because it happens frequently and it disrupts my groove when I have to take him a key.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. I'm too tired to have a thought, random or otherwise. However, I do realize that it's Wednesday which means only two more days until the weekend!

QUESTIONS
  1. Do you prefer to wash dishes by machine or by hand? If you tell me you don't wash dishes, I will cry, but secretly want to be like you when I grow up! It all depends on my mood. Sometimes I wash by hand, other times I use the dishwasher. Mostly, since the nest has emptied out, I wash them by hand.
  2. Who has been the biggest inspiration to you? Probably my grandmothers- both of them. They both cooked from scratch every single meal, loved to garden and walked the walk.
  3. Have you been to any fall festivals or local fairs? Will you be going to any? No. It's hard to get into anything like that when the temps are in the 80s. Besides, we don't really have much like that going on around here. But I do so enjoy the farmers' market on Saturdays!
  4. Bath or shower? Shower. Every time.
  5. Tell me something interesting you learned from a blog recently. Please:) I've learned that one blog I read to help me find my 'zen' is more interested in making money than helping people. It's not that I deny anyone trying to make money, but there is a line that separates reasonable from areyoufreakingkiddingme!
Hey Wendell- that was a fabulous picture of you on the blog! You are even more handsome than ever!

Have a great rest of the week!

  1. It sure is hard to pick just one great thing about fall!

It's still very warm in my neck of the woods. Hopefully the weather will take a turn soon, and all the rain will finally take a break.

Have a blessed rest of your week.

  2. Arlene- It certainly is! Still warm here too and I'm so sick of it. I'm still praying for fall temps to get here SOON.

  4. I wish I could send you some cooler weather. we had storms with tornado watches yesterday. Forty plus customers picking up things at the farm, and huge downpours. I won't send those. Just the cool weather. Fairs and festivals aren't the same if it's warm. Give Tucker a hug for me and Wendell.

  6. Always so nice to read your thoughts. So you fell out of a tree when you had been reading. I don't think I ever fell out of a tree. I did sit and read in them quite a lot. Well all summer long. :)
I think it will be nice when cool weather is here all of the time. We had a cool day---94 :)
I am glad it is Wednesday too.
Have a great rest of the week.

  7. What a cool place to read in a magnolia tree (except for falling out of it; thankful no broken bones though :)

I do not ever think I have heard of pumpkin chili before; it does sound like it could be interesting to try. I do agree too about getting older; I like not caring what people think but I don't like those aches and pains of aging.

Son was always good about locking himself out of his car, sometimes with the car still running. Thankfully he seemed to break that habit recently :)

The weekend is rapidly approaching :)

  8. I'm totally looking forward to fall! This summer has been brutal in Kuwait (most days 120-130F)! One of the things I miss most about the States is seeing the leaves change color (not many trees in this desert). I'm excited about football too - though the time difference makes watching the games live a bit tough! :)

  9. Oh my goodness, I' ve been a slacker keeping up with blogs so I spent some time reading your last few posts. You're working!! It sound like you are enjoying this new adventure, I'm happy for you! I was just thinking I would love to retire, I dream about it daily..and you are entering the workforce again!
    Blessings, we need good teachers.

  10. When we left the concert last night the thermometer in our car said 47 degrees. I feel like I need to put the heat on here this morning but I bundled up instead. I haven't had my bathrobe on since last March. I think fall is on its way!

  11. Showers are just such a great imitation of nature. A bathtub would be great if it imitated a lake - with sloping beach for easy removal of aging body. No, showers are best.

I occasionally do dishes by hand and wonder why I don't do it more often. There's a comfortable feeling to it. And the whole process is done much faster than with a dishwasher. Unless you store your dishes there LOL

  12. I love Fall too but Football is the least favorite thing on my list and YET my ENTIRE family loves it. Even funnier, they all HUGE Ohio State Buckeye fans and I am the only one to Graduate from the school LOL. But, if I start watching I will root for my Buckeyes and if my husband drags me to a game I will get into it :)

Oh, I loved the Zen blog into making money, I totally got what you were saying.

Can't share any new words from your readings, that made smile :)

I shower to clean myself and take baths to relax!!

  13. JP- Tell me more!!!! LOL Hope we get some of that soon.

Patrice- I’ll take the cooler weather but you can keep the tornado warnings. Those are just too scary for me. Were the y picking up between down pours? Tucker sends love back! Oh, Breezy is just being Breezy. She’ll get around to it sooner or later. She’s actually setting up a blog to show her art work right now.

Kim- Thank you! I did fall out but I wasn’t that high up that day. Thankfully. Our cool days are cooler than yours- mid 80s. Though today we didn’t go past 79! What a treat!

Betty- I loved that magnolia! The chili is pretty much just regular chili but with a can of organic pumpkin added. It gives it a nice flavor. The aches and pains haven’t bothered me yet. But I know it’s coming. Have a great rest of the week!

Plum- Me too! Whoa- and I thought our summer was hot. I would flat out die if I had to endure your temps! That’s terrible. What’s the coldest it will get there? How long will you be over there?

Shawn- I’ve been slacking too. I just haven’t adjusted to this new schedule yet. I am so glad to be back working. I’ve been sitting idle for way too long. At least I feel like I’m accomplishing something now!

Joyce- WHAT?! Share, please! I would LOVE some 40 degree temps!!! We did just go up to 79 today. And this morning it was 66. So that’s an improvement! But I would have had to turn on some heat with your temps…just a little.

Stephanie- I do prefer showers. But if I had a jacuzzi, I might hop in there every once in a while. I like the way the soap feels when it gets all..soapy. LOL

  14. I do love pumpkin, one of my favorites and hope to get some of the coffee also. How great that you didn't break anything when you fell out of the tree! Yes, now that I think about it I would love the cottage from The Holiday. Glad you didn't share the words from those books, I bet there are some duesies!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Heck, why stop with the cottage when you could wish for the whole package?? lol May you have a lovely weekend and may the temp drop to 58 degrees. :-)
