Each week Stasha gives us a theme for our lists. This week, we our topic was 10 Best Movie Quotes.
I have no idea how in the world I got this list down to a mere TEN because I could go on and on and on with this one. I just chose randomly from my long list. Some of them are cheesy but I like them anyway (see the one from Robin Hood); some are from movies our family can quote from beginning to end but I only chose one for the list (see Christmas Vacation); some of them make me want to get up and get all involved with the movie (like Scarface); and some are just classy as hell (like All About Eve and To Have and Have Not).
All you have to do to join in with this week's list is click on the button!
Ten Best Movie Quotes:
- From To Have and Have Not: Slim Browning (played by Lauren Bacall):"You know you don't have to act with me, Steve. You don't have to say anything, and you don't have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and... blow."
- From Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves (you know, the cheesy Kevin Costner one): Marian: You came for me... You're alive... Robin Hood: I would die for you. CHEESY? Hell yes. LOVE IT ANYWAY? Hell yes.
- From All About Eve: Margo Channing (played by Bette Davis): "Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night."
- From The Treasure of the Sierra Madre: Gold Hat (played by Alfonso Bedoya): "Badges? We ain't got no badges! We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinking badges!"
- From A Streetcar Named Desire: Stanley Kowalski (played by Marlon Brando): "Stella! Hey, Stella!" (also hilarious when Cam does this on Modern Family).
- From Scarface: Tony Montana (played by Al Pacino): "Say 'hello' to my little friend."
- From Christmas Vacation (what can I say, my entire family could quote this movie by heart...every single line): Clark Griswold (played by Chevy Chase): "You checked our shitters, honey?"
- From Gone With The Wind (because, as a southerner, I would be remiss to leave it out): Scarlett O'Hara (played by Vivien Leigh): "I can't think about that today. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow."
- From Dirty Harry (because it's Clint Eastwood, duh): Harry Callahan: "...you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"
- City Slickers: Mitch Robbins (played by Billy Crystal): "It doesn't happen. See, women need a reason to have sex., men just need a place."
Ok, what's on your list of best movie lines?
I was hoping someone would do the Dirty Harry line.
ReplyDeleteOh, the line from Cool Hand Luke: "What we have here is a failure to communicate". Oddly enough, I never saw the movie but one of my work bosses used to say it all the time. he thought he was tremendously witty. But whenever I think of movie quotes, that's the first one in my brain.
ReplyDeleteLove, love all the classic movie references. I briefly considered compiling a list of all the great rapid-fire exchanges between men and woman in some of those great old movies. But then....I'd just get sucked into watching ALL of them. :)
ReplyDeleteWayne- But of course! :)
ReplyDeleteStephanie- I thought about that one too. I really could have gone on and on with this one. It's a pretty good movie. The husband likes it way more than I.
Rory- Thanks! I love the old black and whites best of all- even when they are over dramatized. :) That would have been a fantastic list! But it would have been quite difficult not to end up watching them- you're right about that!
Great lines and some of yours are my favorite. Can I tell you one about the badges line. My sister was once in a bank robbery. The robbers made everyone lay down on the floor with their faces face down. As the mouthed off and marched around she listened to them.
ReplyDeleteLater when she was answering questions for the police, the policeman asked her what she could tell him. Being scared out of her mind she said all she could think of was that he sounded like the guy in Sierra Madre saying " Badges, Badges,we don't need no stinkin badges." The officer laughed and she laughed but that is what I think of every time I watch that movie.
Kim- NO WAY! That is hilarious! Not that she was in the robbery but what the guy sounded like. Too funny! It's what I'll think of every time I see it or hear the quote now!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, we overlapped on a couple. I couldn't rope myself in at ten though.
ReplyDeletePaul- Thanks. I noticed the overlapping while visiting your blog. Which I thought was fantastic, BTW. Couldn't 'rope' yourself in???? LOL You're hysterical!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what movie this was in or who said it; but I love it anyway. Referring to working on their relationship- "It'd be like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic".
ReplyDeleteThose are all great ones. Yes. I am one to channel Scarlet as well. "I'll think about that tomorrow." And everything Clark Griswold is quotable. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThose are some great movie lines. For whatever reason I can't explain , one of my favorite movie quotes is from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when Ron's dad asks Harry, "So, Harry, what exactly is the function of a rubber duck?" It just always cracks me up. lol

Darn, I m issed this one, but no list of mine would be complete without the Godfather and Gladiator quotes, they're my all time favorites. I totally dig the Cklint Eastwood one, cause it is Clint Eastwood, duh...!
ReplyDeleteFor a long time I thought that moment in Robin Hood was one of the most romantic moments ever. I want to watch it again to see if it's as good as I remember.
ReplyDeleteYep, yep, yep. Although I don't do cheesy. But you totally have my heart with the other 9. And yes, Cam rocks that quote.
