It's all about gifts one should NOT give you. If you read my post yesterday, you may have gathered that I have an opinion on this very subject. Ha! It's not that I'm unappreciative. I would just rather receive nothing as opposed to a gift that is last minute or not thought through. Most of us in this family do put time, thought and effort into the gifts we give. But there's this one family member....LOL
Next week, we'll be making a list of 10 little (or secret) things that bring you joy.
All you have to do to join in with this week's list is click on the button!
TEN GIFTS BETTER LEFT UNGIVEN:
- A house plant. I really do NOT appreciate being given a houseplant. I much prefer outdoor plants. The husband has been bringing me plants since I finally got him to stop giving me candy. If he knew me, he never would have given me cut flowers or plants. Because I don't like them. I don't like that people grow flowers just to kill them. I don't care for houseplants because it's one more thing I have to deal with and I don't deal with them well. I'm pretty sure he gives me plants because his mother loved them. Hello? I'm NOT your mother.
- Outdoor plants. Enough is enough. I prefer to get my own. Mostly because I like a variety and I always receive rose bushes on Valentine's Day. Mixing it up to the man around here means type of rose bush.
- Candy. Not a great thing to give someone who is STILL trying to lose weight and who has also given up refined sugar and working on giving up organic sugars for dextrose. Anyone who lives in the same house with me should know this, right?
- A household appliance. Self-explanatory. Or, at least, one would THINK it's self-explanatory.
- Perfume. Never wear it due to allergies. As soon as I smell it, I can taste it and then I get a major headache. Imagine how much fun it is to walk through the front doors of a department store. EEEK! Also included in this category are cosmetics, lotions...shoot- any beauty products.
- A figurine of any type/style/etc. I have so many now that I don't appreciate them. And I used to love them!
- A book. I'd rather have the gift card to the book store. My taste in books changes like the weather. You'll never be able to keep up.
- Clothing. Again, I'm too picky about my clothes.
- Liquor. I can't hold it. Plus, it tastes nasty.
- Lingerie. I'm not a girly-girl. Never have been. I don't do lace. Or anything else itchy. And I don't want anything hanging around where it doesn't belong.
And I'll leave you with this:
The only thing not on that list is a kiss and a hug...so I know what to send.
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with #4! My hubby still doesn't understand why I didn't appreciate a dustbuster for Valentine's Day. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow come a man is never allowed to complain about a bad gift? I always wondered about that.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your list babe. I wouldn't want any of those gifts at all. Great list.
ReplyDeleteI also have no desire for my husband to purchase flowers, plants, perfume, or figurines.
ReplyDeleteI will, though, take candy.
wow, you're definitely not easy to buy for girlie. Maybe you should write a list of the approved gifts and post it on the fridge, you know, for all those family members who may be hard of hearing....:)
ReplyDeleteI'd love some new lingerie...but definitely something I'd rather pick out myself. Way too much chance of it not ending well for him LOL
ReplyDeleteguess that also means I'll be passing on the chocolates :(
You are so funny Pam, Well, now I know what not to get you for your birthday. :)
ReplyDeleteYou just make me laugh every time I read your lists.
Well have a incredible week.
Well, I love receiving plants, flowers, candy, liquor, and perfume (as long as my partner knows the right ones, of course). But meh on the figurines and clothing. Rather choose my own. As for appliances...dont' even come home. LOLOL
ReplyDeleteFun list!
Gail- Aw! You're so sweet!
ReplyDeleteKathy- DoodleBug is here still sick and I read your comment out loud to her. She's still laughing. LOL
Wayne- Because y'all don't get bad gifts. LOL Seriously, go ahead and complain. She won't mind. Really she won't.;)
dino- Thanks! knew someone out there would get it. :)
coop- Hahaha! That candy is hard to turn down.
Alessandra- I think it's a mental issue brought about due to testosterone levels rather than a hearing issue. LOL
Rory- So true! On all counts. LOL
Kim- Thanks girl! How are the wedding plans coming along?
I'm kind of a girly girl but not fon of #10 either. My pj's are big mens tshirts that I buy on clearance from Old Navy. Best pjs ever. Your entire list was very relatable.
ReplyDeleteKenya- I agree. Anything like that just makes sleeping that much better!
ReplyDeleteTerri- Amen to that! LOL
ReplyDeleteGive me a gift card anyday!! Bookstore, local eatery!! Im so nontraditional!!
ReplyDeleteYou always make me laugh, but we can agree to disagree on #9
ReplyDeleteI really want to see the list of gifts that are acceptable!! Seriously though, I'm in agreement with you on #1, 2,4 and 6. The rest, it sort of depends, I can like it or hate it, so I suppose it's safer to get a gift card. I LOVE gift cards; to me, it's as thoug you get 2 gifts, cos you get it, then you get to spend it!
ReplyDeleteI really hated when I had my babies when people brought me flowers, and it was for the exact same reason you dislike no 1...more work for me to do looking after them! hand-tied bunches hadn't been invented then.
Now, I don't like cut flowers since I read that some of the pickers are forced labour, women, of course. Ironic, isn't it, that gifts can be the product of such unfairness.
I'd take 3, 4 and 5, but the rest are right on for me. Especially love a bookstore gift card. Great list Pam :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like gift cards are the safe bet for you :) I tend to get most people that now a days, it seems to be what they want, unless I know them intimately and know something they really, really want.
ReplyDeleteI am 100% behind you on the gift giving subject. Also figurines equal dusting. And no one ever said: I love dusting.
