Gobbling, Ho-Ho-Hoing and the Hodgepodge

Gobble, gobble! Here comes Santa Claus! And where the heck did this year go? Why are the years in such a hurry? Goodness, let's slow things down and enjoy what time we have. On way to do that is to join in the Hodgepodge!

1. Besides U.S. Thanksgiving, it's also National Game and Puzzle Week...what game have you played most recently, and who were you with? Have you worked a puzzle of any kind in the past week? We play games every time we get together for a family gathering and that was just a couple of months ago. I don't usually work puzzles but nearly everyone else in the family does--from crosswords to jigsaw and everything in between.

2. What is one place you were thankful for this year? Home.

3. Take a nap, watch football, go for an after dinner walk, or hit the stores...which ONE is on your must-do list for Thanksgiving day? For those of you playing along who aren't in the US, answer as it relates to any big holiday meal. All of those are on my must-do list except the shopping one. IF I have to choose only one, I'm going with football. I can do without the nap and the walk but I cannot do without the football!

4. Besides Thanksgiving, what's your favorite home cooked meal? Anything my grandmother ever cooked!

5. What product from an infomercial would you most like to own? The Shark Sonic Duo carpet and hard floor cleaner. I saw it months and months ago and I still want it. Dang. Maybe I will hit the stores tomorrow. LOL

6. Christmas shopping? Have you begun? Finished? Will you shop on Black Friday? How do you feel about stores opening on Thanksgiving Day? What percentage of your Christmas shopping is done online? I have begun. I am not finished, but I am close. I will not shop on Black Friday. The problem I have with the stores being open is their motivation- greed. 97% of my shopping is done online.

7. What are you most grateful for that adds beauty to your everyday life? My weekend walks with Tucker on the nature trail when we get to see the sunrise-

8. Insert your own random thought here. We've had the entire week off from school and it has been glorious! I still do not agree with letting parents vote on the academic calendar and I know that having the entire week off means hell to pay when we return for the three weeks before winter break, but I have to admit that I have loved every minute of not being at school this week. And now, let the food prep begin!

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

  1. How interesting parents get a vote on the calendar. I've never heard of that. I'm sure it was nice having the week off though :) Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day and all the football!

    1. You say interesting, I say stupid. LOL It's something our ex-superintendent started as far as I know. But, yes, it has been nice. We haven't had days this semester like we usually do. Thanks! You too!

  2. Beautiful sunrise photo, Pam. Enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving and the football game. If we didn't have 10 inches of snow on the ground, I'd be going for a walk after dinner. Tucker can come with me. :-)

    1. SNOW?! I love it but Tucker would, most likely, decline. LOL Hope y'all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  3. Bet it's so nice to have the whole week off! I guess I shouldn't complain...I've had 2 2-day weeks & next week will be a 4-day week for me! I get so stressed with Christmas gifts...I never know what to get anyone!
    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. It has been wonderful. We haven't had many days off this semester. I think it's due to having the week off. It was grueling getting here, but we made it. LOL Christmas gifts get harder the older everyone gets. I'm thinking that none of us needs one single thing. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    1. I enjoy sunsets as well but the early morning is my favorite time of day. The quiet is so soothing. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  5. Home was my choice as well. And the sunrise photo was beautiful! I enjoy every one of them and at the end of the day is a bittersweet feeling at the beauty of it and the closing of another day. Happy Thanksgiving! I am with you about the motivations of stores on Thanksgiving.

Now I am going to have to ask our kids if they have any vote on school days off.

    1. Home is something I am trying not to take for granted anymore. You just never know. Sunrises are special, aren't they? The promise of a new day... The parents voting is a brainstorm of our ex-superintendent. I don't like it. I never got to vote when I was a parent and I don't think they should now that I'm a teacher. LOL Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  6. Our area schools took the entire week off, too. It must be a new trend. Enjoy your Thanksgiving and your football :)

    1. We did it year before last and the teachers hated it. So more of the voted the following year. This year, 60% of parents voted and less than 10% of teachers voted and BAM! We got the week off. LOL Thanks! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
