Just two more days and we're out for winter break. It. Cannot. Get. Here. Soon. Enough.
Not that I want Christmas to get here and speed through it but this last week at school can end right now as far as I'm concerned. Good grief.
I'm so glad there's the Hodgepodge to keep my mind off things for a minute or two! Unless Joyce puts some of those thinking questions in there. Then it'll take my mind off things for HOURS. :)
1. Time magazine has selected The Ebola Fighters as their person of the year for 2014. Do you agree, and if so who would you say is a close second? If you disagree with their choice, who do you think should have been chosen? If they saved a hurt animal or shut down anyone/place that causes animals to be hurt, they are my person of the year. If they saved a child from harm of any kind, they are my person of the year. If they helped a homeless person have shelter, they are my person of the year. If they fed a hungry person or animal, they are my person of the year. If they brought laughter to the lives of others, they are my person of the year. The Ebola Fighters? Maybe. But not so much in my mind. To me, it should be people of the year. If I had to narrow it down to one person, I'd probably go with this guy:
2. This question comes to you courtesy of Susan who blogs over at Stew Mama Says. She knows we have a wedding happening any minute now, and she asks, 'What's your favorite-something old? something new? something borrowed? something blue in your home? Be sure you hop over and say hi to Susan today! Something old- my oldest and dearest friend from college. IF that's not what you mean, then I'll go with one of my grandmother's hankies. Something new? My new hiking shoes that will accompany me to the mountains in a couple of weeks--IF I get them worn in. Something borrowed? I don't borrow- honestly, I'll do without before I'll borrow something. Something blue in my house? We looked and I don't think I have anything blue in the house. We use fall colors mostly.
3. Fudge-yay or nay? Your favorite flavor? Do you make it yourself? With nuts or without? Fudge, YAY! Maple. Yes. I prefer it without but I make it both ways.
4. December 17th is Wright Brothers Day, commemorating the first successful flights made by Orville and Wilbur Wright in 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. How old were you when you made your first flight? Do you like to fly? Have you ever been to Kitty Hawk or other parts of the North Carolina Outer Banks? I was around 19 or 20 when I first flew. I don't hate flying but I'm far from loving it. The biggest issue is my claustrophobia. I was born in NC and lived there for the first 15 years of my life so yes, I've been to the Outer Banks millions of times! Ok, not millions. Probably around ten or so times. :)
5. Do the people in your family tend to follow a particular career path, and if so what's the path? We have a ridiculous number of educators in my family. Seriously, the number is large. On both sides of my family.
6. What is one thing you absolutely, positively must accomplish today? Sitting down for a minute.
7. This Christmas I hope that everyone behaves themselves for goodness sake.
8. Insert your own random thought here. I'm just going to sum it up with this:
Ha-my daughter can relate to that last one. Plus I just can't wait to have her home. In other news...I've never acquired a taste for maple. It's okay, just not my favorite. I hope you have a wonderful time in the mountains, definitely one of my happy places. Merry Christmas!
I thought about her when I posted that picture. :) It's just been crazy at school this week and Friday is pajama day. All learning is off. Ha! They are calling for a winter storm up there the day we head up to the mountains. My fingers are crossed that it happens after we arrive. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Love that last photo! I'm sure my sisters are feeling the same! Another great Hodgepodge! I'm jealous that you are going to the mountains after Christmas! Can't wait to see some photos and hear all about it!
Here in my part of the world the week before Christmas is the last week of school for they year and is spent packing up and getting ready for the holidays
Wow. Really???? Oh, wait. It's summer there, isn't it? I can't imagine celebrating Christmas when it's hot out. I've always associated it with cold and snow. Even though I've only experienced a white Christmas around 8 times in my life. I still like it cold. I keep saying that we need to go to school all summer and have our 2 1/2 months off in the winter. I would LOVE that! :) Merry Christmas!
Oh, my! School the week before Christmas break?! Say no more! I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and an enjoyable break from work :) Kathy (from Reflections by Kathy)
Being a transplant to the low-country of SC for 31 years is still not long enough to be called a ‘benyeh.’ If I stay until I’m dead I’ll probably go a ‘comeyeh’ since I am, originally, ‘from off’ (which is the upstate but, rules you know). By day I take care of my sweet little granddaughter, Baby M and do all those things I did when I was a SAHM raising four daughters which has translated to, ‘by day, I am exhausted.’ By night I blog, blog, blog, and blog some more or I sleep, depending on my level of exhaustion (do they still make Geritol?). I have a very unhealthy addiction to sweets (nearly any kind will do) and all comfort foods not covered under the ‘sweets’ category. I’m known for speaking my mind so, if you don’t want to know, don’t ask me. I love to find the humor in my empty nest life. I live life hard and smack into that brick wall almost daily because I’ve always had to learn the hard way. Why change now? I’m so glad you’ve come to laugh with me as I do this middle age, empty nest thing like a BOSS!
