We're getting NOTHING for winter. And, by nothing, I mean we aren't getting any snow or ice days off from school. Which means it's full on until spring break. UGH.
Not that I want what some of you are getting. I don't want so much that I have to lose power or worry about my roof caving in...No. I just want a few snow/ice days from school. Apparently, that's just too much to ask for.
It's a good thing there's the Hodgepodge to look forward to each week!
1. When did you last have to interact, either by phone or in person, with someone in a government run agency? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the experience? (10 being fabulous and 1 being pass the Tylenol) I cannot think of a single time I've had to interact with a government run agency. At least, not in this century. Maybe there is one but I didn't realize it was a government agency???? Who knows. LOL
2. The current governor of Wisconsin is considering a run for President next time around. Walker attended Marquette University, but never graduated. In terms ofany candidate running for the office of President (not asking here if you agree or disagree with Scott Walker's politics) would the lack of a college degree influence your vote or no? Would that be a factor in your support of any candidate running for public office, even a role less weighty than President? That totally/completely/100% depends on the individual. I come from a long line of educators so I am all about higher education. However, I know, personally, people without that college degree who are quite wise. A trait that some of us 'book smart' folks don't all possess. One of these friends has the best idea on fixing our country's money issues that I've ever heard. So, it depends.
3. When did you last visit a place or site named for George Washington or Abraham Lincoln, and what was that place or site? I haven't visited any place named for either since I went to the Lincoln Memorial when I was 12. Someone at our school has the last name of Washington. Does that count? LOL
4. February 16th was President's Day in the US, but did you know it was also National Almond Day? I didn't think so : ) Do you like almonds? If so, what's a food/dish/recipe you enjoy that contains almonds? Well, that explains those recipes with 'Almond Joy' in the title. Yes, I like almonds. But I don't have a recipe. I just like them out of the bag. :)
5.The television program Saturday Night Live celebrated it's 40th anniversary this past weekend. Were/are you a fan of the show? If so what has been your favorite (or one of your favorite) skits, sayings, or characters that came out of the program? YES! I was a fan. I haven't enjoyed much of it since the Eddie Murphy years. But from the beginning through Eddie Murphy---HILARIOUS! There were too many favorites to list here but I'm going to put Landshark and Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood at the top of the list. Oh and Point/Counterpoint! And Roseanne Roseannadanna! Weekend Update! OMG- you've got me started now! The lovelies have seen all the early years episodes and they loved most of the more recent ones...the ones of their teen and early adult years. All in all, we're an SNL family.
6. Anything purple within ten feet of you? What is it? NO. I hate purple.
7. Back in December I asked you to submit a question for a future HP as part of a giveaway I was hosting. I grabbed this one from those entries, submitted by Zoanna who blogs over at Penchant for Pens. Thanks Zoanna!
She asks, "How often do you make your bed, and how do you like to make it-pull the covers all the way up over the pillows, tuck the covers in around the pillows, or place all the pillows on top of the covers?" I throw the comforter up over the pillows and leave it at that. I don't see the need for more than that. It may be because I come from a long line of make-up-that-bed-the-right-way-every-day-no-matter-what people and I am still rebelling. Ha!
8. Insert your own random thought here. Not much going on in this head of mine. I'm pouting because we aren't getting any snow/ice days. Last year, we had FOUR of them. FOUR. This year, nada. Our hot days last so very, very long. It's just nice when we can have a winter worth remembering.
Hope all who are living through an eventful winter are doing so with power and without damage to yourselves and your property!
Have a great rest of the week, y'all!
My daughter who teaches in Greenville was just saying they didn't get any snow days this year, and now BAM! this week they've got them. She has enjoyed her extra long weekend, since they were off Monday for President's Day. Out yesterday and again today. I'm headed that way for the weekend, so frankly am not excited about more of the weathere we've got here : )
ReplyDeletePlease have her send whatever she doesn't want the 3 hours south to me! I'll take it Oh, gosh. It's going to be 7 degrees here in Charleston tomorrow and Friday due to the wind chill so you can imagine what it's going to be like in the upstate. Of course, Sunday, it's going to be 68 so...this weather is NUTS! Safe trip!
DeleteI still watch SNL and there is still talent but nothing compares to those early years. They are the best! I just pull the quilt up over the pillows, nothing fancy but that is because I've been wanting to get a new quilt for a long time now.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there is talent. I often wonder if part of the problem is that the things going on these days is just not funny...
DeletePam, I enjoyed your answers! I definitely look forward to Hodgepodge Wednesdays! It's fun to compare answers. No snow days here, and I'm thankful for it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy it too! Even though I don't get around to reading some posts until the weekend. sigh.
DeleteI would love to sit and watch the old SNL reruns with you. We would probably crack a rib from laughing so hard. Samurai Chef, Baba Walters fwom Washington, Roseanne Roseannadanna, Coneheads...omg...Jane, you ignorant slut! I'm cracking up just writing this. Great answers today. XX
ReplyDeleteI'm sure we would! Actually, I'd have a ball laughing with you no matter what we were doing! :) Love and hugs!
DeleteYou hate purple..................what the hell, how could you hate purple it is so pretty because it is you know purple...............lol
ReplyDeleteI don't know. There's a whole back story and I come off looking bad so...LOL
DeleteI once belonged to a Government agency, USAF. I don't think the government is the champion of bad service. Most any large organization can get bad at it. Think of big cable, telephone companies.
ReplyDeleteHey I think you live closer to Washington DC than I. You should visit. It's a great place with lots of free stuff to see.
We share a love for SNL and I thought the 40th celebration was overall great.
I don't think they are either. Don't get me started on cable companies. They are the WORST. Or maybe insurance companies. UGH.
DeleteI've been to DC. DD2 just moved from there to Nashville. She loved all the free museums and such. She had a great time there but was ready for a move. The boy toy's band is based in Nashville so, off she went. :)
I thought so too.
I make up the bed ... Husband takes a nap and flings the covers to the side. I wonder why I continue to make it, but it needs to be done. Sorry you haven't had any snow days. It's always fun to have a day off and get a llittle break. I don't think I have anything purple in my house except my grandma tee shirt. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt is nice but it just doesn't seem that we'll be getting any this year. I might even wear purple if it was a grandma tee! :)
DeleteWe were out on Monday anyway, and Tuesday was supposed to be a PD day for us. No going back for us until Monday! I definitely think the early days of SNL were much better.
ReplyDeleteWe were out Monday but that's it. We've got single digit temps coming tonight but no precipitation. :(
