Oscar, Smoshcar But the Hodgepodge is Awesome

Wednesday has arrived once again and so has the Hodgepodge! That even makes the fact that there's a faulty meeting this afternoon not seem so bad, Ha! Click on the button to join in!

1. Did you watch The Oscars? How many of the Best Picture nominees have you seen? (American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, Selma, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, and Whiplash) Nope. Can't stand those things. Hollywood and I are not BFFs. And, I've seen none of the movies. :)

Do you think actors should use their acceptance speeches as an opportunity to promote their political and/or social agenda? Does that sort of speech make you more or less inclined to change the channel? Well, since I never watch them anyway, I don't really care what they say. On the other hand, there are people who are highly influenced by what celebs have to say so, based on that, I do care and wish they wouldn't. Wait, did they?

2. Speaking of the movies... are you comfortable going to a movie alone? How about dinner in a restaurant (not fast food, but an actual restaurant)? The second half of this question was posed by Carrie who blogs over at It's Not Easy Being Queen. Thanks Carrie!  I don't think I would be because I've never done it and I think that's the reason why. I've had dinner alone. Well, not really. I had a book with me. Which is better than some people. :)

3. What's the last home repair or home improvement project you had to pay someone to complete? In hindsight was this a project you could have done yourself? It was YEARS ago when we had to replace the floors due to water damage from the fridge. I'm glad I paid because, had I waited on someone here to do it, I'd still be waiting. And seriously, that was 15 years ago.

4. Have you ever had Indian food? Like it or no? If you're a fan, what's your favorite dish? Have you ever prepared this yourself at home? Is there an Indian restaurant in your current hometown? I have not. I don't know if there's an Indian restaurant around here.

5. A song that reminds you of your parents? There's not a particular song that takes me back to my parents being together but, anytime I hear Johnny Mathis, that does it. :)

6. The 26th of February is National Tell A Fairy Tale Day. What's your favorite, or one of your favorite, fairy tales? Do you have any childhood memories associated with aparticular fairy tale? I like Hansel and Gretel but for creepy reasons. I think that was what led me to being such an avid Stephen King fan. LOL It, I believe, is the motivator behind a recurring childhood nightmare.

7. What's a problem you solved yesterday? I had to figure out how to spend my 'snow' day. Hey, it was hard, but I just had to decide whether to be productive or just snuggle up with Tucker, some classical music and a book. Guess which option won?

8. Insert your own random thought here. We had such a great day yesterday. A nice day off from school. Sadly, we didn't get snow but, it was a day off from school so- regardless, it was worth it. I was greedily hoping for one more or at least a late in today but that didn't happen. And now, I think our window of winter weather opportunity has closed. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. So, I'll just have to be grateful for the one day and plow forward through the next four weeks until spring break.

Oh, and did y'all know that March holds a Friday the 13th? We just had one this month. AND, I think there's another one in November. That's a bit like tempting fate, isn't it? ;)

And that's it for this week, y'all! Have a good one!

  1. I would've picked Tucker, too! I've pretty much been doing that for the past 2 weeks, anyway! We had 1 day of school in the past 2 weeks, and it was a delay. More snow today, so I don't think we'll make it back this week.

    1. Wow. Now THAT'S what I call a snow day. LOL I'd still rather have to make them up when it's too hot to be outside anyway.

  2. I had to smile at the end of your answer to #2. Truth : ) Did they get political? Sort of, but it was more like pushing a social agenda...one speech after the other. So so tiresome. I wish America could recapture a sense of lightheartedness at times. I know the world is a dark place most days, but we used to use a little bit of humor to ease that. Now it seems there's an agenda with everything. Ugh.

    1. You know, I think you're right about the lightheartedness. Sometimes though,, with the degree and types of things that go on these days, it's just hard to find the humor in anything. But we sure could use some of that humor. Just to get a break from it all.

  3. Your doggie is cute! And, I don't know. the way this winter is going I think you might get another "ice day" before it's over. My teacher daughter in Raleigh has had 5 snow days in the past 2 weeks. Crazy!!

    1. Thanks! I love him to pieces. In case you couldn't tell. Ha! I hope so. I'd love another day or two and then I'll be ready for the push towards the end. And it's a big, intense push.

  10. Looks like putting up some pics of a cute dog works get for reactions. Not that you did that on purpose.
Celebrity pushing agendas - they are most annoying if the agenda doesn't match your view. I like the Oscars but I will say that Ellen Degeneres hosted it much better than the idiot this year, Neil Harris. You missed seeing him go on stage in his underwear.

    1. I can't help it. He's just cute. Can't change that. LOL I believe it's rather annoying even when it does match my view. But that's because I'm not a fan of celebrities and I am not happy when they're on the same page I am. :) I can't remember a time when I ever watched the Oscars. And Neil---I still see him as Doogie Houser. Ha!
