I have always questioned the motivation of suck-ups. I have always believed that they suck up only to certain people. People who have something the suck up wants or can do something for the suck up or just because they are attention hogs. Whatever the reason for sucking up, I believe they do it for acknowledgement and/or self-gratification of some sort.
I have a whole new outlook on suck-ups. I no longer question their motivation. I just sit back and appreciate the fact that they are sucking up to ME!
Ok, maybe it lasted more like a couple of weeks. But, still. The sucking up time was nice while it lasted.
Now, we're in a whole new, uncharted (for me anyway), part of having the nest no longer empty. The part where the kids act like they did when they were growing up complete with the expectations that 'Mom will do everything so we don't have to do a damn thing.'
Yeah, that is NOT working for this mom of four-two-of-whom-have-come-back.
And so begins the series where I discover and share the ups and downs of boomerang kids.
To paraphrase Betty Davis' line: Buckle up, y'all. It's going to be a bumpy ride.
Keep steering them towards the door...one day they'll go back to the other side!! LOL. My guess is you're such an awesome Mom that they just can't stand the thought of you being alone with Tucker! Hugs sweet lady! xx Love ya!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying but it's like they don't even know what a door is. :)
DeleteOh, I shudder to think about having our empty nest filling back up again... I agree with Barb, keep steering them toward the door--and don't make the 'nest' too inviting or comfortable :) Bless you!
ReplyDeleteI am trying to steer them towards the door and also trying not to make thing too comfortable. But they're still here. Sigh.
DeleteGood luck! I agree with your connections above....don't make it too easy for them, and keep steering them toward the door! (Not always easy!)
ReplyDeleteNothing about this is easy, that's for sure!
DeleteIt's not working for me either over at my house with our daughter! I think it time for me to give live with my father......
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha! I was thinking it was time to go live with my mother or aunt. :)
DeleteI think adult children living at home need adult responsibilities and motivation to strike out on their own. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteI might go. Need a roomie? LOL Thanks!
DeleteOh yeah when my girls start sucking up to me, I wonder what they want, and at times I will respond with I have no money, before they go too far, then I get I don't want money mummy I love you yeah so what do you want
ReplyDeleteExactly! LOL
DeleteThey leave again Pam. They just love their mama. :) I think I'm to the point it's easier to have Mike go to his own home at night than be here. But it's still hit and miss with his father too, you know....the man who knows it all.
ReplyDeleteTake care and enjoy your evening. Blessings!!
I think they're just moochers. :) The man who knows it all..LOL Don't they all? Ha!
