One of the best things about living here in the Charleston area (we are 10-15 minutes from the Emmanuel Church, depending on traffic) is the way the community pulls together in the face of disaster.
Our local media and police, as well as county, state and federal agencies showed great resolve and cohesiveness as they worked together to swiftly find and arrest the responsible individual.
Please keep the Charleston community in your thoughts and prayers as the healing begins.
I think it rocked the nation, and I completely understand how those of you who live there felt even more horror and sadness. Always in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteThey televised the church service this morning on all the local stations. It was the most powerful message I've ever heard from just about anywhere. Quite moving and inspirational. Thank you!
DeleteI agree with Terri, and I think also the nation was shocked at the forgiveness shown by those who lost loved ones at the hand of this perpetrator. With selfishness running rampant in our country today, it is a rare thing to see that kind of selfless forgiveness. What a wonderful example to us all who nurse grudges about trivial offenses. Praying for the governor and community of Charleston.
ReplyDeleteI hear what you're saying but,, in the Charleston area, this is not unusual. It's one of the things I love about living here. When the chips are down, people come together. Now, if we could get that governor and the national media to stay out of things...LOL Thanks, Judy! I wanted to visit your blog but I saw who your new friend is and I can't look at those things, even in pictures! :)
DeleteI don't understand this level of hate, even Tim who is a bit of a racist at times doesn't get it, he doesn't like Muslims but he wouldn't go around killing them, he just wouldn't hang out with them.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand it either. But it exists. Sadly. They were able to have service in the church this morning and the local stations aired it. The sermon was absolutely perfect. So inspiring. Let the healing begin.
DeleteI used to pass this church on my way to work downtown Charleston. When I heard what happened, I was just speechless. Who ever expects to go to their church to be confronted by a mass murderer? It's so sick and we need to do something to fix this country. It's going down the tubes quickly.
