Thank goodness football has started (so what if it's pre-season) and we have the Hodgepodge to enjoy in the middle of the week! Click below to join in the fun!
1. Way back when (the Hodgepodge bicentennial to be precise) several of you submitted questions as part of a giveaway I was hosting. I went back to that list for inspiration today and found a question submitted by Marla, who blogs over atMarla's Musings. Thanks Marla!
She asks-At what age did you feel like a 'grown-up'? What keeps you young now? I'll let you know when I get there. Autopilot keeps me going. That, and the glimmer of hope that changes are just around the bend. :)
2. When did you last buy a vehicle? Was this by design or because you had no other option? Was the car/truck purchased for your own personal use or was it bought for someone else to drive? On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being delightful and 1 being 'pass the Excedrin') how would you rate the experience? Since I've been without a vehicle of my own for over a year now, let's not go into that right now. This whole car buying thing is NO FUN.
3. Corn bread, corn chips, corn pudding, corn on the cob, cornflakes, corn chowder-your favorite of the corn-y foods listed? What needs to be served alongside your selection? No corn for me because no carbs for me. However, my grandmother's cornbread dressing was THE BEST EVER. We had it at Christmas and Thanksgiving and it was TO DIE FOR. I can get close to replicating the recipe (which is a feat since she didn't use recipes) and I make it on the same occasions. And gravy goes along side it. HaHa!
4. What's something in your life that regularly requires you to 'put your thinking cap on'? Since I am the technology teacher at school, I have to don that cap every single day to keep ahead of my students in this regards.
5. Share a favorite movie set in a school or classroom, or whose theme relates to school days in some way. This was hard. So, I took my top six, rolled the dice (actually, the die) and the movie whose number came up was: DEAD POETS' SOCIETY.
6. Reading, writing, and 'rithmatic' are commonly referred to as the three R's. What are the three R's in your life right now? Technology, technology, and technology.
7. What's something you've learned or tried recently you can say was as 'easy as ABC'? Nothing in the realm of technology.
8. Insert your own random thought here. This is the third day of school and I am exhausted. Keeping up with all these elementary kiddos is not easy. And I don't think it's an age thing because every one of us at school could use daily naps. Three days down. 177 to go.
That being said, the kids are great this year and, tired or not, at least it's easy to look forward to seeing their sweet faces every day.
Have a great rest of the week, y'all!
People who've never taught don't realize how crazy and exhausting that first week back is. My daughter had her first day with kids back yesterday and said she never finished her lunch and did not sit down all day. They started with a 4 day week here which I think is an easier transition in than starting back on a Monday. We are making our second try at the DMV today-exhausting in a whole 'nother way!
ReplyDeleteWe like starting on Wednesday but, for the last two years, the powers that be disagreed. They think they know so much. Ha! DMV? No thanks. I'll just stay at school. LOL
DeleteOh, I like Dead Poet's Society too. Good movie! Another fun and interesting Hodgepodge. Bless you and all teachers, Pam. Bless you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri!
DeleteThat is an excellent movie choice! Hope you can relax on the weekends.
ReplyDeleteI might miss the weekend. I plan to sleep the whole time. LOL
DeleteI think I would enjoy your class. Thanks for being a good teacher who loves the challenge and the children.
ReplyDeleteYou might not think that after this week. Haha! Thanks!
DeleteI start back next Monday and I will feel the same way you feel a week or so from now.
ReplyDeleteYep. There's no tired like teacher tired the first week of school. So grateful for the weekend!
DeleteWe start Tuesday so today was get my bus ready and also run my route. I have 7 new kindergartners along with 5 other new students for a total of 54 on my bus. I am ready for the routine but not ready for 4:30 am. Plus I still have my summer job till September 27th. I am pretty sure I'll be dead before than.
ReplyDeleteYou are an awesome teacher Pam and I would bet you could even keep my attention in your class. I suffer from nano bit size attention span.
Have a great rest of the week and plan nothing for this weekend, your bed will be calling your name the full time.
Blessings my friend!
The only thing our bus drivers are getting right now is flack. Good Lord, they couldn't please the parents around here if they got out and walked each and every child right to the front door. Hang in there! I don't know how you do it but you are truly an inspiration!
DeleteI found when I was without a car for over a year I became use to catching the bus and walking places but was still glad when I got another car, we adjust to not having one but oh how good it is when we get one again. Yeah the school week seems to go by pretty slow with the weekend over in a blink
ReplyDeleteThere's no bus here unless you want to go downtown. We have vehicles that we share but I miss having one of my own. Thank goodness Friday finally arrived! Time to sit down for a minute. :)
DeleteI know you struggle with teaching and the tough schedule. But, please know that your work with children is not overlooked. I and others admire what you do, and realize you put in much work for not enough pay. I mentioned before that my oldest daughter went into teaching last year and almost gave up. She had a tough first year - not because of the subject matter and load, but because student behavior was scary and frustrating. I'm glad she stuck in there and she is back at it. Her students arrive Monday. I pray for ALL of you!
ReplyDeleteThe thing I struggle with is getting up and having to have that morning routine. I prefer leisurely mornings. The kids don't bother me- I raised four daughters. I'm not scared of kids. LOL My schedule is full but that helps the days fly by and I like that. Next week, I add the 4 year olds to the mix. Now I'll teach close to 700 kids every week from the age of 4 to 11. If that doesn't keep me on my toes, nothing will! Hope your sweet girl has a wonderful year! What grade does she teach?
DeleteAs a teen I never thought car buying would be a pain. But it is.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy technology most of the time but then I don't need to teach it. It certainly changes fast.
