Happy December, y'all! Have you started your shopping? Finished it? Have your plans been made? Solidified? Are you panicked? Goodness, there is so much to do that I'm not quite sure where I am in the scheme of things. I just wish the weather would cooperate. I'm so sick of hot weather. And, it's NOT Christmasy. At all.
Good thing we have the Hodgepodge to take our minds off of the rush and remind us to relax and enjoy the season!
1. Did you watch The Charlie Brown Christmas special Monday night? No, but only because I didn't realize it was on so early. AND, I will be showing it at school so I will get to see it. Again. And again. And again. Who's your favorite Peanuts character and why? Linus. Because he's so philosophical.
"Most psychiatrists agree that sitting in a pumpkin patch is excellent therapy for a troubled mind."~Linus
Would you agree? Sure. Sitting out in nature in silence is wonderful for sorting one's thoughts or just clearing the mind.
2. Describe a sound from your childhood. Ice clinking on the sides of glasses. What does this sound bring to mind? This takes me back to a time when we kids played freeze tag in the backyard while the adults sipped drinks in glasses with ice. I remember the clinking of the ice and all the laughter. Such a happy time. Of course, that was probably due to what was in those glasses. But, still..
3. You've won a trip to a winter wonderland...would that excite you? YES! Which one of the following would you most want to experience (or which one would you dislike the least)-see the Aurora Borealis in Norway, stay in Sweden's Ice Hotel, go dogsledding in Lapland Finland, take a winter wildlife safari in Yellowstone or celebrate Winter Carnival in Quebec? If those are my choices, I'm going with the Aurora Borealis in Norway. The igloos in Finland are the only things on my bucket list, though. I really want to go and stay there.
4. Who or what keeps you humble? The kiddos at school. Nothing will keep you humble more than elementary students.
5. What part of preparing for Christmas do you like the most? Decorating. No, wrapping presents. No, putting up the tree. No, making the homemade goodies. No, ...LOL I love it all! Explain. All of the times I spent with my grandparents was wonderful but, Christmas was the BEST! Y'all can read about this HERE.
6. Gingerbread-yay or nay? It depends on how it is made. Is making a gingerbread house part of your family holiday tradition? Not since the lovelies got all grown up on me.
7. What's one thing you want to start, do, or complete before the calendar rolls into a new year? Right now, I can't think of anything. During the school year, I tend to keep my head down and plow through.
8. Insert your own random thought here. A most wonderful family with whom we used to go to church lost their youngest son, aged 21, to a car accident over the weekend. Funerals are difficult but never quite as difficult as ones like this. Please keep the Moore family in your thoughts and prayers as they make their way through this tragedy. The funeral is at 3:00 this afternoon.
Have a wonderful rest of the week, y'all.
I'm so sorry for the loss of Jackson Moore and I will certainly offer a prayer for his family. Always hard, but especially during the holidays. A tragedy.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers to this week's Hodgepodge, Pam. It is always fun to compare answers with all the Hodgepodgers! Those igloo rooms look SO cold. No thanks, but I'll be thrilled to hear about your experience there!! :)
Thank you for the prayer. Such a lovely family. I love comparing the answers too. I think the igloo rooms look cozy. LOL
DeleteOh gosh, that's so sad. Life is never the same when a child dies. I will keep his family in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine. I hope I never find out. Thank you so much for your prayers. They are truly a sweet, loving family. Jackson was, in his mother's words, "...a good, good boy."
DeleteLinus is the coolest by far! I'm sorry to hear of this young man passing. So sad especially when there are so many evil people walking the streets. Makes no sense sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI agree! It was so sad. He really was a terrific young man. His family is the most loving, caring I've ever known.
DeleteThose igloo's are so cool !! I'm glad you love it all when it comes to Christmas. Funny, we didn't start doing Gingerbread houses until just a few years ago and the adult kids really enjoy it. I will keep the Moore's in my prayers. So very sad.
ReplyDeleteDon't you love them? I'm dying to go and stay in one. Thank you for the prayers. There were no drugs or alcohol involved. He was speeding. :(
DeleteI didn't know about the Finnish igloos. Given a choice I'd rather go for hammocks hung between some palm trees on a nice island. Hey I found this singing duet called Shovels and Rope from your area of the east coast. Ever hear of them? I posted an interesting song of theirs.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about this type of death being so tough. So hard to accept a person's future being cut short like that. Wishing the best for his family and friends in this sad time.
No palm trees for me. I don't do hot well. Have not heard of Shovels and Rope. I'll hop over to your place and give a listen. It really is sad when a young person future is cut short. So sudden. And unexpected. And just flat out horrid. Thanks for the kind wishes for the family. I haven't seen them since the funeral on Wednesday but I'm sure they'll be in a fog for quite some time.
