Reading the Hodgepodge
Well, THAT was quick. Wasn't it last Wednesday a blink ago? I'm not complaining. The quicker the better. Until school is out and then, it's time for the big slow down.
Meanwhile, let's take our time and enjoy the Hodgepodge.
1. What's the last thing you did that could be described as 'taxing'? Living here with people who should be out in the world on their own.
2. If you could plant a garden of anything, what would be in it? Literally or figuratively? Regardless, I do not possess a green thumb.
3. April 10-16 is National Library Week...will you celebrate with a visit to your nearest library? Nope. When did you last make a trip to the library? Around 15 years ago. What are you reading right now? I'm in between books right now. But, as soon as school is out, I will re-read the first three books of THE DARK TOWER SERIES so that I can read the remaining books in the series. What's one title on your want-to-read list? Nothing right now. I don't usually keep a want-to-read list. I hear of a book or see a title that intrigues me and jump in that way. I apply reckless abandon to my reading choices.
4. Share a saying or an old wives tale you heard while growing up, you believed to be true or that you paid attention to 'just in case'? I always thought my grandmother was telling me old wives tales or just some sayings or something of the sort when I was growing up. When I was older and we attended a Baptist church, I discovered that she was spouting bible verses all those years. Who knew? Well, she did. There were many but I'd have to dig out my bible to remember which ones and I'm just too lazy for that right now.
5. Are you a fan of onions? Yes. Garlic? Yes. Ginger? Not so much. What's a dish you love that contains one, two or all three items listed? No specific dish. I use onion and garlic in many dishes.
6. Where does nurturing end and indulging begin? Nurturing turns into indulging when taking care of someone turns into enabling them. It changes when, instead of guiding gently with love, we give in to demands or we give up and let them have whatever they want without working for it. What are some skills or qualities you think a person needs to posess in order to be viewed as mature? Mainly, I think a mature person accepts responsibility for their own life and their actions.
7. What leading figure in any field would you like to hear speak, and why? I can't think of a single soul who is a leading figure in their field I'd like to hear speak. But I would love to find a lecture series around here. I truly enjoy lectures especially by authors and particularly, poets. Historians are another favorite of mine. And scientists. As long as it's not a politician, I'd attend. For now, I'll just enjoy TedTalks and CuriosityStream. Unless a series turns up or Stephen King comes to town.
8. Insert your own random thought here. Not much randomosity going on in my head because I'm so busy with the last quarter of the year. I did start a new series here on the blog called, The Grandma Post. You can read the first one HERE. There will be one every to every other Monday. Because becoming a grandma for the first time is always on my mind. :)
Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

I like your answer to number six, and laughed at number seven because I think we're all sick to death of politicians!! Have a good day, Pam.
ReplyDeleteIt's a circus this time around, isn't it? Goodness. Thank you!
DeleteGoing over to read The Grandma Post. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope you enjoy it!
DeleteI just popped over and read the Grandma post. I would be right there with you on the shopping. I'll probably need an intervention when my grandma days arrive. There's nothing quite like a grandma's love. Enjoy every minute!
ReplyDeleteI think I need one of those interventions right now! LOL Thanks!
DeleteYou know how I feel about #1 and #6. Our son doesn't need anything from us but our daughter has been a challenge. We do not help and keep quiet now but of course she does still live here!!!!
ReplyDeleteI do. We're definitely in the same boat girl! I wish we could get off on an island and let them keep on sailing. LOL
DeleteWhen did I last go to the library, well it was this morning, I often go to the library and by often I mean once or twice a month as I cannot afford to buy books and I like audio books, books on cd which I listen to while I am driving
ReplyDeleteI just don't have the time or energy to go to the library. I buy all my books for less than $5.00 each most of the time. Oh, heck. I have a book addiction. I would love nothing better than having a library in my house. LOL
DeleteI'm excited for your to be a grandma just from your excitement!! Looking forward to great things to come!
ReplyDeleteThanks! And thanks for sending me the link to the blog this morning. I'll check it out for sure!
DeleteI enjoy the TED talks. Luckily we have Fermi Lab nearby and they offer a few physics lectures during the year. Authors and historians would be interesting too.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Curiosity Stream? I've been enjoying those too. I had hope that the College of Charleston would offer some lectures to the public but, so far, I've not found any.
