A Day in the Life of Grandma and a New Look
What better way to launch the new look of Empty Nest than with a bit of grandparenting humor?
Let me just say right now that I do love Baby M to pieces. But this taking care of grandloves during the day is going to take some getting used to. Some of y'all knew this was coming, didn't you? Yes, it's true. There really IS a reason God gives babies to young people.
Lord help me when she becomes mobile. After our first hour and a half, I thought the whole day had passed and it was time for her mother to come pick her up.
Here's a portion of our first full-time day together.
7:44: Lovely 3 and Baby M arrive.
7:45: Lovely 3 tells me she forgot the bottles.
7:46: Lovely 1 who nannies two babies gets us a bottle from one of the moms. I have formula.Crisis averted.
8:05: Lovely 3 leaves for her first day back at work full time.
8:13: Baby M wants a bottle.
8: 30ish: We read, THE LITTLE HOUSE, have floor time, have 'Grandma steals all the kisses time'
9:00: We read the rest of THE LITTLE HOUSE just so Grandma can try to finish it without tearing up ( I love that book), and crib time.
9:35: Baby M falls asleep while cooing to her mobile and listening to classical music.
9;36: Grandma thinks it's not good that Baby M fell asleep since her mother will be here any minute to pick her up.
9:36 1/2: Grandma goes into shock that Baby M has been here less than 2 hours.
9:37: Grandma makes egg sammies because Lovely 1 was hungry.
9:55: Lovely 1 walks her charges down here to pick up sammie and coffee.
10:05ish: Baby M wakes up and her dad stops by with the bottles.
10:15: Grandma and Baby M rock and read, ALL I NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED FROM A LITTLE GOLDEN BOOK.
10:30: Baby M wants a little bit of a bottle and falls asleep.
10:48: Grandma tries a couple bites of her cold egg sammie and suddenly realizes why she was more slender when the lovelies were growing up and wonders if, perhaps, grandparenting is good for dieting?
11:00ish: Grandmas sings a little song she made up entitled: "Where is your sweet mama, shouldn't she be coming to pick you up soon?" Y'all can probably guess the remaining lyrics.
Y'all. That did not even get us to lunch and I STILL hadn't gotten a chance to eat that egg sammie. Let's face it, they are not that delicious cold.
No, I'm not going to change anything. I love and appreciate being able to keep Baby M every day. It's such a privilege. There are TONS of sacrifices that I had no idea were coming my way but, I should have. I made many of the same sacrifices to stay home with the lovelies and it was worth it. This is as well because this:
After all, with me, it's all about my kids and grandkids. :)
What makes y'all feel your age?
And now, tell me your HONEST opinion of the new look of Empty Nest. I really wanted something happier to reflect the happy mood that being a grandmother brings. Did it work? Was it a mistake?
I think Lori at Imagination Designs did a fantastic job considering she had to put up with me and my indecisiveness. Not to mention my fear of change.
Anyway, honest comments, pretty please!
Peace, Peeps!

I've so enjoyed the pictures of your grandchild on Instagram. I don't think I could handle babysitting full-time. Glad you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI like the new look.
It's not the easiest thing I've ever done but it is one of the most fun. :) I'm glad you've been enjoying the pix! And that you like the new look. It's going to take some getting used to.
DeleteI like the new look! I can relate to looking after grandchildren, and when your little one starts moving around - look out. And later on, they stop having their little naps during the day. Eeeek! But I feel so fortunate and blessed to be able to see so much of them, and I know you feel the same!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've already thought about the day she becomes mobile. My days are numbered. LOL It's definitely a challenge. Just getting up and down off the floor is interesting. But yes, I am blessed and grateful that she didn't have to go into daycare. :)
DeletePam, I love your new look. It is kicky and bright and happy! Lori nailed it for you!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I like it and she was so wonderful!
DeleteI have two grandbabies coming in about half an hour. She is 4 and he is 2. They'll be here about 4 hours and I will be ready for a long nap once they go home. lol But isn't it wonderful to live near them and be part of their lives?! My two oldest grandchildren live across the country and we only get to see them once a year for a few weeks. That truly stinks!
ReplyDeleteI am exhausted when she leaves. But that's ok. She's not here all day everyday, just twice a week. The others days she's only here for a half day, if that. I love having the time with her and maybe, just maybe, this will be good for my weight. LOL Thank you!
DeleteAwesome Pam! Love reading the life of grandma. I hope one day it will be my turn. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI hope so too! You'll be the best grandma ever! :)Thank you!
DeleteI think your new look is great ...well done to Lori.
ReplyDeleteJust love, love, love your mosaic photo's.
All the best Jan
Thank you so much! She was fun to work with. Not sure she feels the same. LOL
DeleteLove the new look! Love the photos of Baby M, she is so cute and I know you are loving each day you have with her.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am enjoying her but she sure does make me feel my age. LOL Glad you like the new look!
DeleteGreat new look, great photos of one cute baby, and the life of a grandma or in my case nanna is always so busy
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the new look. I wanted clean, fresh, and cheery. It certainly is busy. And exhausting. LOL
DeleteI like the new layout. I probably would have picked a different color but color is very personal thing so go with what you like. (you really don't care about my opinion of color selection - right?)
ReplyDeleteHey thanks for keeping my blog in your favorites list on the sidebar. I put my blogroll thing on a separate page long ago but I don't know if people use them that much anymore.
Yes I agree that "God gives babies to young people" for reason. Which BTW, has me scratching my head when I hear news of older people having babies.
Well just remember if Baby M is having a poopy day it's your duty to make her fresh and happy again.
I was going for something retro- like a 1950s kitchen with the green and red. That green is hard to find and we ended up with this. I still like it better than the last one though! Older people who have babies are crazy. That's all there is to it. And I'm beginning to think that grandmmas who say they will stay home with their grands are crazy as well. What was I thinking????
DeleteWhat a fun post! I love seeing someone point a more realistic picture of grandparenting. It is fun, but it sure can be exhausting.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, fun and exhausting. I sleep so well these days. LOL
DeleteLove the new look, and love all of the baby pictures :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm glad you like the new look! And the baby pix. :)
