Y'all, this kid is pulling up on EVERYTHING in my house whether it's stable or not. Mostly not. It's like she decided ok, I've crawled now LET'S WALK! And we're all like, NO! Seriously, she's just going to get up and do it any day now. Meanwhile, Grandma, who thought she knew exhaustion, is really just discovering what exhaustion truly is. Just redirect her, you say. That would be fine except REDIRECTION DOES NOT WORK WITH THIS KID. She looks at you like, yeah, I see what you're doing but I was trying to pull up on this ANYTHING UNSTABLE so that's what I'm going to do. And she does and I break my neck getting over there to hold the UNSTABLE THING steady. She's so busy every second of the day. And so CUTE! Until you take something away from her. No, she's still cute even when she's arching her back and throwing her head back while uttering her total discontent for your bad decision and as with the pulling up thing, REDIRECTION DOES NOT WORK WITH THIS KID. She forgets NOTHING and she is totally focused. There's no containing this little stinker. I've never been a fan of the old playpens but I'm changing my mind. I kid, I kid. She's the BEST and I'm grateful to spend this time with her every day! Thank goodness I can take it slow and easy with the Hodgepodge every Wednesday!
1. 'Slow and steady wins the race'...tell us about a time this was true in your own life. I'll have to tell y'all about this when it actually happens. When it comes to slowing things down, my intentions are good but follow through isn't. Although I am getting closer.
2. 'As slow as molasses'...Do you like molasses? Not really unless it's called for in a recipe. How about maple syrup? Yes. Caramel? Yes. Butterscotch? Yes. What's your favorite of the slow moving treats mentioned here, and what's your favorite food made with that sweet treat? I'm not sure. Maybe this depends on my mood of the moment like everything else. Ha! Y'all know I have an incurable sweet tooth and these are some of my favorites. I love maple syrup on pancakes and on vanilla ice cream. I love caramel ANYTHING but especially one of those little caramel cubes of candy. I love butterscotch when it's my mother's butterscotch fudge or butterscotch pie. And I love the memories that a piece of butterscotch hard candy evokes.
3. Your favorite slow song? That's a hard one. I love so many songs regardless of tempo that it's always impossible to narrow them down to one favorite. But I always love this one no matter my mood:
4. Your favorite thing to make in a slow cooker or crock pot? There are many things I like to make in the crock pot. A couple of years ago we made several breakfast dishes in crock pots for Christmas morning brunch and those were good. I have a chicken and noodle dish and a pasta dish that are pretty good. Cherry dump cake is pretty good, too. OH! There's a hot chocolate recipe that is delicious! But I don't think I have a favorite. Wait! Maybe my mother's meatballs that we put in the crock pot for Christmas Eve and when we host oyster roasts. Basically, I just enjoy using the crock pot because that means it's cold enough outside so it doesn't really matter what's cooking.
5. 'You may delay, but time will not.' ~Benjamin Franklin Are you more a hurrier or a delayer when it comes to unpleasant tasks that need doing? I lean towards hurrier. I want to get it over with. I'm always tackling the unpleasant tasks before the others. If I don't take care of those unpleasant ones first, they will not get done. What are you currently either delaying or hurrying to get through this week or month? Nothing that comes to mind.
6. Tell us three things you encounter regularly or even just occasionally that you find to be annoyingly slow. This poor laptop who takes a lot of abuse and holds so much for me so I try to be so good to it. The passing of summer heat.
7. March is National Craft Month. Are you crafty? I'm not as crafty as I'd like to be. Or maybe I am rather crafty but, by comparison, I don't feel crafty. My mother is EXTREMELY crafty to the point it's a talent and each of the lovelies is crafty to a degree. Check out the high chair pads below. Tell us about something crafty you'll try in the next thirty-one days. I'll be working on more items for CoasterDoodles (my Etsy shop)Or something crafty you'd like to try or wish you had the skill to make happen. There are so many things I'd love to be able to do, quilting comes to mind, but I lack the skill and/or patience to do them. Mostly, the patience is lacking.
I pulled the high chair out of the attic that the lovelies used and realized it needed a pad. I searched the internet and refused to pay $75 or above for those cute ones on Etsy so I called my mother. She made herself a pattern for the covers because she wanted me to be able to take them off to wash them, found some seersucker fabric and fashioned the pads. She decided the top needed a little clown so she just cut one out of felt. Just cut one out. Made her own pattern. Those are two phrases I cannot use when discussing my crafting abilities.

I agree! Mother always does nice work and the girls always love everything she does! Thank you for saying that about the coasters and note cards. I really enjoy making them but I always question my ability. :) Thanks!
You have beautiful cards and coasters in your Etsy shop! You are very creative and talented! Enjoyed listening to "Harvest Moon." Had never heard that song before. Thank you for including the video in your post.
I would say you're pretty crafty : ) I remember butterscotch candies from my childhood too. They remind me of my grandmother. Rest up for your soon to be walker! Enjoy her!
You're sweet! Thank you for that. :) The butterscotch candies remind me of Aunt Gertie who lived across the street up the big hill in the big house. She would hide them in various places and loved for us to come in and find them. She was the best in our eyes. Oh gosh, she is EVERYWHERE! She pulls up on everything and I'm a nervous, exhausted wreck. LOL She fell over the weekend and bumped her head while her daddy was watching her. He was so upset and told my daughter he was going to burn the coffee table. LOL I remember those days so well. The least little thing and you question your ability to be a good parent. I reminded him that at least he didn't let her go off the porch in her walker like I did when her mother was little. I've never forgotten that.
You are very crafty, Pam...those coasters say it all, as do your notecards. You sound like me...I'd be lost without my Crock Pot! I love that thing!:))
You are so sweet to say that. I'm so glad you like the coasters! I used my crock pot nearly every day when I was teaching. They really are the best! Thanks!
That cute little rascal! And it's only just begun! Yikes! I'm with you on wanting to get unpleasant tasks out of the way. I think you're crafty - what with your coaster doodles and note cards! xo
Rascal is exactly right! LOL If I don't get the unpleasant ones out of the way, I won't get to them at all. Thank you. I always question whether I'm crafty or a craft wanna-be. :)
It sounds like the activity level has increased at your house, thanks to baby M! There will be no time to relax (for quite a while), now :) Wow, that high chair pad is impressive! Such talent. I love all of your note cards, but set #2 is my favorite. Kathy (Reflections)
It's off the charts. Maybe I'll lose some of the weight I've put back on. Again. Mother is so talented. She can make anything and I'm not exaggerating. If there's no pattern, she makes one up. I'll put you down for Set 2! Thanks!
I love him, too! I'm so glad you think I'm crafty. I keep on questioning my ability and coming up lacking. I'm ok until I see what someone else has done. I love the wooden high chair! Maybe you'll have to pull yours out one day soon! :)
Yup! Once they start moving around, that's when the hard work starts!! 😂😂. The next thing I found was when they stopped having their daytime nap! 😊😊
Being a transplant to the low-country of SC for 31 years is still not long enough to be called a ‘benyeh.’ If I stay until I’m dead I’ll probably go a ‘comeyeh’ since I am, originally, ‘from off’ (which is the upstate but, rules you know). By day I take care of my sweet little granddaughter, Baby M and do all those things I did when I was a SAHM raising four daughters which has translated to, ‘by day, I am exhausted.’ By night I blog, blog, blog, and blog some more or I sleep, depending on my level of exhaustion (do they still make Geritol?). I have a very unhealthy addiction to sweets (nearly any kind will do) and all comfort foods not covered under the ‘sweets’ category. I’m known for speaking my mind so, if you don’t want to know, don’t ask me. I love to find the humor in my empty nest life. I live life hard and smack into that brick wall almost daily because I’ve always had to learn the hard way. Why change now? I’m so glad you’ve come to laugh with me as I do this middle age, empty nest thing like a BOSS!
That high chair and pads are so cute. I think you are very crafty with your coasters and notes!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day and enjoy that grand baby.
