And on the computer with the Hodgepodge, of course!
1. Share a favorite memory of your mother or share a favorite something from your own life as a mother. I quite enjoyed every part of being a mother but if I had to narrow it down I would choose the holiday season- that of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Those were the best times of sharing and teaching family traditions and sharing stories from my childhood with the lovelies. Of course, the same can be said of the other holidays throughout the year but those were my favorites. My favorite memories of my mother center around her passion for kids with special needs of any kind. When we were in high school, Mother went back to college to get her degree and her Master's in School Psychology. She's helped so many kids throughout the years. If you're a mother (or stepmom) tell us how your experience as a mom differs from your own mother's experience. I think the parents of my parent's generation were far more hands-off than my generation. My mother worked so she was hands-off but even the moms who stayed home with their kids were hands off. Probably because these were the rich moms who had maids and others to help around the house. Those moms were busy with the junior league and such. We were middle class so both my parents worked. On the weekends we were family oriented but the kids still kept to themselves and the parents did as well. I was the opposite and was hands-on with my parenting. I liked my way better.
2. In May we celebrate teachers (May 9) and nurses (May 6) both. Most every family has at least one in their midst, so tell us something (or a few things) you appreciate about the teacher or nurse on your family tree. I come from a long line of educators and my youngest lovely is a first-grade teacher. I love that she teaches in the very same elementary school she attended as a child. A few of her teachers are still teaching there as well. The thing about Teacher Lovely is that she is one of those 'born to teach' people. She's a natural and she does not play. Those kiddos never have to guess where the boundaries lie, she is always upfront and honest and her students not only know that but they LOVE her!
3. Chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad...which would you go for if all three were on the menu? II would only choose one of those if they were the only things on the menu and it would be chicken salad. On bread or a bed of lettuce? If I'm going to blow it with all that mayo then I might as well have the bread. If you answered bread, what kind of bread would make it the perfect sandwich? Plain old country white bread. I mean, if I'm blowing it, I'm going to blow it all the way!
4. Do you have a desk? Yes. Is it organized? Yes. If so, share your secret to keeping it that way. I keep it that way because I don't use it. I need more space so I use the dining table. Ha! If you don't have a desk, where in your home do you take care of family paperwork and business? I do most everything at the dining table. Where do you normally sit to blog? Guess!
5. When I was nine years old....apparently, nothing at all happened. I even Googled the year and zip, zero, nada. I got the same results from my memory. Maybe I never turned 9. Ha!
6. Insert your own random thought here. These two:
Best dog. |
Best astronaut baby. |
That's a great answer about the chicken salad! Made me laugh. You made an interesting observation about the different generations of parents. Mine fell into the same boat - more hands-off (though supportive) than what this generation is in terms of parenting.
ReplyDeleteHey, if you're going to blow you might as well go all the way and enjoy it, right? LOL Yes, hands-off but supportive is a good way to put it. :) Thanks!
DeleteOk, those pictures of your two cuties put a big ol' smile on my face this morning! Wishing you a HAPPY Mother's Day, Pam...enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you got a smile out of them! I do, too. :) Same to you!
DeleteMy parents were also hands off. Their generation had lived through the Great Depression and served in WWII, and were doing all they could to put food on the table and make sure they're kids got to school. I had it a lot easier than they did. Anyway, love the pics of Baby M and Tucker. Have a great Mother's Day, Pam.
ReplyDeleteThat was my grandparents generation. My parents grew up in the late 40s and 50s but they were still hands-off. My grandmothers were both very hands-on as they both stayed home to raise the babies when the babies were little. Today's kids can't do anything without their parents up in their business. LOL Thanks, Judy! You, too!
DeleteTheir, not they're. Grr. Hate predictive texting!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean! It happens to me all the time and drives me nuts. :)
DeleteMy parents were hands-off too. Love your last two pics. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been their generation. :) Thank you! You, too!
DeleteI understand about the heat. In Minnesota we welcome Spring with wide open arms, but come late July or even earlier we complain about the heat and humidity.
ReplyDeleteI think the thing I'd complain about in Minnesota is the cold. Or maybe not since I'd probably never leave my house. Just like here in summer. LOL Have a great day!
DeleteOh yes to the hands off! My dad would never in a million years have paid money for us to go 'play' at a place like Chuck E. Cheese, etc. when we had a perfectly good backyard : ) Gonna be a scorcher here today too. I'm taking care of some inside chores, but we may do a sunset cruise tonite. That's the nicest time of day. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteMy parents would have laughed themselves silly over something like Chuck E. Cheese and yet, when the grandchildren came around... It's like Bill Cosby said, Grandparents are just old people trying to get into heaven. LOL I kid, I kid. But they did not give a second thought to giving the girls parties anywhere they wanted them. Go figure. I hope y'all get to take a sunset cruise. You're right, it is the nicest time of day! Happy Mother's Day to you!
DeleteI agree, the holiday's were the best with our children. I'm liking Chipotle Mayo with chicken lately. Those two....the loves of your life! Happy Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteThe holidays are the main times I start the whole memory lane walk and miss the ones who aren't here that year. They are the loves of my life! And spoiled rotten the both of them! LOL Thanks! Happy Mother's Day to you!
DeleteThe holidays (all of them) are among my favorite memories of being a mother, too! I always went over-board and we celebrated in a big way.
ReplyDeleteHow about this crazy HOT weather...in May? Lord, help us when July and August get here.
Kathy (Reflections)
Same here! The heat. Goodness, I can hardly stand it especially coupled with the humidity that is predicted to return this week. I feel like I can't get a deep breath. Oh, gosh. July and August. I may have to move this year. LOL
DeleteWe have had BELOW normal temps for over a week maybe over two weeks.
ReplyDelete"I keep it that way because I don't use it." - your honesty gave me a laugh.
Teachers - they are vital to our future.
Oh, stop bragging. LOL The temps have been above average around here for quite some time. That's not a good thing. Glad you got a laugh. :) I agree about the teachers. We've got some serious issues facing our county right now. It's going to be interesting to say the least.
DeleteI have so enjoyed today's Hodgepodge and memories of moms on everyone's sites. I think your hands-on mothering and grandmothering is definitely the best.
ReplyDeleteI have, too. I love reading about the memories of others and I love that they have sparked memories of my own. It's been a really good Hodgepodge. :) Thank you, Terri!
