This Summer I Will...

I never make New Year's resolutions because follow-through and I are not BFFs. But I wondered what would happen if I made a few summer resolutions. I loved summertime when I was growing up. The days were long and lazy, there were no schedules or have-to-dos. Even my parents who both worked outside the home seemed more relaxed. Our summers were filled with going to the pool, cooking out, freeze tag, catching lightning bugs, climbing trees, riding bikes, reading in the magnolia tree, getting to drink Kool-Aid at my cousins' house... Such fun!

When the lovelies were growing up summertime was much the same. Though we did go to the beach nearly every single day as it's only 3.1 miles from our house. I loved not having to get the lovelies up and ready to go to school. We had lazy mornings and fun afternoons unless we decided to have fun mornings and lazy afternoons or be lazy all day or have fun all day. It didn't matter what we did, it was summer and we loved it.

These days, all I really do with summer is complain about the oppressive heat and the accompanying humidity that may actually kill me this time around. When I thought about it I realized there are still good things about summer like the kids are out of school so the traffic won't be nearly as bad, there will be tons of watermelon to be eaten, the ice cream truck will be around nearly every single day... Yep, good times are coming because of summer. And so, I've made a list of summer resolutions one unrealistic the other realistic.

Unrealistic Summer Resolutions:
  1. Get my Yoga on and find a treadmill or glider elliptical because exercise helps my fibromyalgia so much. Not that knowing this gets me out there moving but, now that I've resolved to do it...
  2. Get another Fitbit and count my steps! My Fitbit died a few months ago and I need to get another one. They email you your weekly progress and only registering 3,000 steps is embarrassing. Without the Fitbit I don't care about the steps. With it, I do.
  3. Go to the beach in the early morning to walk and enjoy the sunrise. It's still only 3.1 miles from my house so there's really no excuse for not going. Other than laziness.
  4. Rent one of those cabins at a nearby state park for a long weekend. Yeah, it's hot out there.
  5. Take road trips and visit Nashville lovely. Wait. I don't have a car.
  6. Prepare healthy food every day. Hahahaha!
  7. Just say NO to sugar. Bahahahaha!
  8. Get back into morning meditation. Sure because it worked so well the first-tenth time I tried it.
  9. Get some rooms painted. Ok, this one actually has a 50-50 chance.
  10. Go to the 4th of July fireworks display. Nope. It's hot out there and there are a lot of people.
Realistic Summer Resolutions:
  1. Eat ice cream, popsicles, froyo. Oh yeah! This is going to happen!
  2. Enjoy Baby M's first birthday party! No problem!
  3. Host a baby shower for Lovely1! Again, no problem!
  4. Celebrate Lovely2's 27th birthday! Bring it on!
  5. Complain about the heat and humidity! Consider it done!
  6. Eat watermelon! Complain when it's not sweet enough and rave about it when it is. I promise!
  7. Try some of those S'mores themed recipes on Pinterest! OKee Dokee!
  8. Make lemonade and drink the heck out of it! You got it!
  9. Enjoy every single non-damaging thunderstorm that comes through! Yes indeed!
  10. Read, write, and relax! I've already started!

You see, the key to keeping resolutions is in the wording.

  1. Well I like both lists. All of them seem doable. You are only 3.1 miles from the beach?? That is amazing. I think I would do that every single day.
I have been very careful about making my summer list. I don't know why, I think I just am enjoying no structure. Which really isn't me. I love lists. But so far, which its only June 5 I am trying to keep my options open. :) Have a lovely day and hopefully it won't be so hot and humid. Eat lots of watermelon. :)I do hope you get a fitbit.

    1. Not having a list is why the second options are even in existence. LOL You'd think I'd go to the beach every day but I hardly ever go over there. Too many tourists and restrictions keep me at bay. And then there's the lazy factor. Ha! It was so humid when I opened the door this morning it came right in and smacked me in the face. And I'm not joking. Hopefully, it will rain and calm it down a bit. :) Thanks!

    1. Thanks! I used to love summer now I tolerate it. It's just the heat I don't love, though.

  5. I really like the idea of a summer's resolution list. Your realistic list sounds terrific. I would put on my list make strawberry, raspberry and peach jam, maybe blackberry too.

    1. Jam! I forgot about that. I loved helping my grandmother put up jam in the summer. Great idea! Thanks!

  6. Well, we are an hour from the Gulf beaches but intend to get over there more often than last year (which was not once). Retirement is coming!!!

    1. I'm so excited for your retirement! Now you can do what you want when you want to do it! And you have Joe to go share it with! Lucky girl!

  7. Well your plans sound like fun and I'm sure you can fit in a few of the unrealistic plans into your schedule!

    1. I could probably fit a few of those in but, if they require effort... LOL Thanks!

  8. Yes, me too--the realistic and the unrealistic. I need to try that. If I wrote would cut back on sugar, the next last would say something like enjoy summer ice cream! Keep us posted on how it goes.

    1. I used to go early and walk when no one was around but then they all started coming out early, too. And then there's the lazy factor. LOL Just say yes to donuts. Especially free ones, eh? LOL

  10. First off thanks for keeping the blogging alive during the summer. You may have notice blog activity does die down in the summer. I understand but reduced postings is better than no postings which seem to occur.

4th of July fireworks displays - one of the benefits of this is being able to enjoy from a distance which helps with handling the crowd.

non-damaging thunderstorm - yes! the flash of lighting, crack of thunder and fresh smell of air afterwards - mother nature having fun I think.
Oh one item my list would be outdoor events/concerts especially of the free type.

    1. I hadn't noticed that about summer blog posting. But now, it'll be in the forefront of my mind so, thanks for that. LOL To watch the fireworks from afar with no people, I have to go up on the roof. But there's the whole fear of heights things. Yes to the concerts but not outside down here. The heat and humidity are oppressive and that's putting it mildly.

  11. I think your unrealistic summer resolutions are very similar to mine! I haven't been real motivated to get done any of the things I "should" be doing!
