Looking Out on the Hodgepodge

Hey! Winter showed up! Not the bitter cold and snow some of y'all might have but it's been quite chilly here and I'm loving it while I can. There's also wedding planning going on and grandkiddos running around so life is full right now but it's never too full to stop me from enjoying the Hodgepodge! Jump in, Y'all!

From this Side of the Pond

1. Three things on your spring bucket list? I don't even have a regular bucket list. If you don't have an actual list that's fine, pretend you do. Ok, ok. Get to Nashville (we've got a wedding to plan); have an outdoor tea party with the grandkiddos; start Whole30 with TeacherDaughter. How's that?

2. Where do you find rest? In my alone time. What restores your soul? That same alone time. When was the last time you did whatever it was you answered here? These days it seems nearly impossible to get that alone time because even when I have it, someone, somewhere throws in that wrench and BOOM! there goes the alone time. My alone time allows meditation, reflection, restoration...without it, people need to watch out.

3. April is National Celery Month. Who knew? Not I. Do you like celery? I don't hate it but it's not something I seek out regularly. What's your favorite dish made with celery? Bloody Mary's. Oh, wait...my grandmother's chicken pot pie which no one learned how to make so, chicken salad or the dressing we make on Thanksgiving. On a veggie and dip platter which would you reach for first-carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumbers or cherry tomatoes? I go for the carrot sticks and cucumber first.

4. I read here eight things to do before 8 am to make your day less hectic-Start one load of laundry, drink water, empty the dishwasher, read your Bible, know what you're having for dinner, get dressed, brain dump (two lists-one what you're thankful for and one what's weighing on your mind), and after the brain dump make your to-list for the day

How many of these are you currently doing? Four- laundry, water, Bible, get dressed. Which one do you think would help the most if you added it to your early morning routine? There are a few other things on that list so adding another one might overwhelm me which could quite possibly result in nothing getting done before 8 AM.

5. Describe the view from your window. The view from where I blog is out of the French doors where I see the deck where I put bird seed (feeding the birds is another thing on that 8 AM list) and where I often get lost just enjoying my feathered visitors. Tucker likes it too because the squirrels are also out there daily.

6. Insert your own random thought here. We're at the beginning of wedding planning and I think she's settled on a venue which is the most difficult here in Charleston since everyone wants to get married here. Apparently, it's the same deal in Nashville where they will be tying the knot so we've been moving pretty quickly. The tour is this weekend so FINGERS CROSSED she likes it in person because I don't want to start all over because seriously looking for a venue reminds me of a race to the death.
I am not a fan of wedding planning but I am a fan of happy daughters and and so we plan and we enjoy every moment of it because it doesn't really matter what it is you're doing when you get to do it with your daughter.

Have a great rest of the week, y'all!

  1. That list of what to do before eight got me thinking. I do plan dinner. I do have a drink of water. I do get dressed. Otherwise I'm usually here at the computer, trying to get something writing done before I get to work by eight. Perhaps I could carve out some more time to think about the things I'm thankful for...

    1. I wonder how much of a difference it would make to make the thankful list in the morning. I make mine at night but it would be interesting to see if making in the morning would affect my outlook on the day. It's amazing how much we can cram in the early mornings, isn't it? :)

    1. This is the daughter who takes charge and gets it done so there's not much for anyone else to do other than listen and give our two cents when asked and she loves planning and social events so she's in her element. I on the other hand and the total opposite. Ha! I think October is a lovely month for weddings! I bet your daughter's wedding is going to be lovely! Thank you!

  4. I saw the reception venue my daughter is hoping to reserve yesterday and hubs and I both loved it. I had no idea this spot was even there, but I like finding a little hidden gem. The event planner there was so nice too and we have the contract with the chapel in hand and hopefully the photographer is still free (waiting to hear back to confirm) and then we meet with our wedding planner tomorrow and then I guess we start handing over the money : ) But it will feel great to have some of these biggies pinned down. Hope you and the bride love the venue!

    1. Oh, yes. The handing out of the money. We do have a great deal on the photographer. One of the boy's in the band is married to a photographer who is phenomenal! She's doing the engagement photos as a wedding gift but Claudia just wants her to enjoy the wedding as a guest. Luckily, this talented gal has a good friend who is super talented as well and is just branching out into weddings so she's given us a great deal! It's quite different this time around with her being 9 hours away. I agree, it is such a relief to nail down the biggies! Your reception venue has piqued my curiosity, can't wait to see it. :)

  5. How exciting for you. :-)
What band does your future son in law play in?
I too, enjoy alone time and watch out if I do not have it.

    Have a great week,
    Carla

    1. Ben is the drummer for The Wild Feathers. They are Nashville based and have recently released their 3rd album and they are so talented! Not that I'm biased. LOL Yes, that alone time can mean the difference between nice and get the heck out of here. Ha!

  6. What? A wedding to plan? I was only gone two weeks and I missed this???
Seriously, I'm happy for your daughter, and I hope the wedding planning goes smoothly.
By the way, I love The Wild Feathers' new single. It's a good sound.
